This is an awesome laptop. A bit heavy but really worth it.

**Update at the end. Man this was a long review, what was I thinking?Through an incredible stroke of luck, and also by checking every single day (NOT any kind of free sample) I was able to purchase the new UX582 with 3070 direct from Amazon. After I bought mine they seem to have instantly sold out. From what I can tell this may be one of the first reviews for the UX582, though for the moment they have attached the older reviews for the 581 in here as well.My background: I’m a designer and primarily use this for graphics/drafting. I also enjoy gaming on the side. Fortunately the boss (me) doesn’t seem to object. I’ve had this for 2 days now, but have used it heavily and already have some opinions.Professional – this machine kills it. Runs heavy Autocad files, Adobe Suite, and 3D modeling software without a hiccup. It’s only been two days but I haven’t even come close to its hardware limits. The dual screen has already changed my workflow for the better. It’s large enough to be very flexible, which is exactly what I need. I wasn’t interested in being forced to use a smaller dual screen as a toolbar, whereas this can be used for any number of helpful purposes. It will be an incredible luxury when traveling and I’m certain is going to speed up my work.Gaming – I’m playing Rocket League, Crusader Kings 3, and a few others at the moment, and all of these ran smooth as butter. Max settings, high framerate, still not even approaching the hardware’s capabilities. And that OLED screen… words cannot describe. This is my first one and I am simply blown away. Yes, it definitely makes that much of a difference.Other miscellaneous thoughts -I was a little worried about the keyboard position, as it had to move down to accommodate the dual screen. It took a very little getting used to but by now I’m just about as fast typing on that as on a regular keyboard. I still haven’t even attached the wrist rest extender thing, which I assume will make it easier still. Keys have a great feel and are just loud enough to notice they are there, not enough to disturb anyone in a quiet office or library. I always prefer fullsize arrow keys, which were sacrificed here to the dual screen gods, but these are totally usable. The trackpad is also smaller, but again works well. You can quickly scroll from edge to edge on the screen and I always appreciate being able to full click the trackpad, not just touch to click. The number pad is wee but it does work just fine as long as you’re not doing major accounting or whatever, and I think it looks great.Overall aesthetics – you can judge for yourself, but I think it looks good. Not flashy gamer style of course. It’s clearly blue, but a nice subtle dark blue. Finish on all elements is great, clearly a lot of attention to detail. The lift on the second screen (not featured on the previous model) is so useful and feels solid.Battery – not the greatest ever, but acceptable for what I need. Running a bunch of applications on standard battery mode I have seen just over 2 hours of runtime. Being strategic about power usage would of course extend that time, or heavier use would probably drop it under 2.Sound – excellent quality by laptop standards, although it is a bit quiet. You won’t be using this by itself for party music. But for a laptop, I would much rather choose quality over loudness.Camera – I’m on zoom constantly, and this webcam works great for that purpose. For reasons I don’t know, the face recognition on Windows Hello login is extremely quick on this laptop. Really nice.Performance – mentioned this a couple times already, but the combo of 32GB + RTX 3070 is outstanding. Under load it does pump a decent amount of heat out the sides, which is what I would expect. In my use so far I haven’t had the keyboard get hot, and the fans are pretty quiet. In summary – I am so impressed. I’ve had three Razer Pros before this and they were solid, but this really takes the whole idea of laptops to another level. I’m looking forward to using it often. Nice work Asus!!—– Update 8/4/21 —–I’ve now used this machine pretty extensively while traveling – two flights, commuter rail many times, a few ferries, etc. Most of what I wrote previously still holds up. I’m still super impressed. Not that this review needs to be longer, but here are a few more thoughts.- The battery life I mentioned above is unfortunately not the greatest. However, if I’m not using the second screen and turn down the brightness a bit on the main screen, the usage time pretty much doubles to about 4 hours or more. So that’s something.- Others have mentioned the issue of the bottom of the screen digging into your legs. Can confirm this is pretty annoying – for me it’s situated exactly so that the corners of this angled piece push directly into my quads. Ow. Asus did include some kind of flexible stand that sticks on the bottom of the laptop and folds flat when you don’t need it, which helps somewhat. Thinking about getting a pad of some kind, but I don’t want to carry around more stuff. If it’s resting on a hard surface, not your lap – the space this mechanism creates below the laptop really helps cooling a lot.- I’ve continued to use this for fairly heavy work and gaming and have never even come close to its limits. Hard to describe how smooth and powerful this is, and also quiet.- Same with the screen. I am still dazzled. It’s almost worth it for that alone.

Dual screen can be both useful and annoying…keeps dropping icons onto the lower screenIs a lot quieter than I thought it would bebattery life is good if you drop the resolution….when gaming it must be plugged in
Daniel K Lynn –
The laptop had a bad key which missed taps or double-tapped right out of the box. One would have expected such a premium laptop to not have these issues. I guess we’ll see if the exchange process is more satisfying than the unboxing. The associated ASURION 4 Year Laptop Accident Protection Plan with Tech Support $3000-3999.99 that I purchased is also mysteriously cancelled. I don’t know what is happening there. I hope I’m not stuck in this bad situation.

While gaming this consumes around 60W… so why does this not allow charging via Type-C. It’s an unnecessary hassle to carry around special brick instead of a lightweight 65w or 100w GaN charger. With the screenpad on I can only code for 4h 20m which means I have to lug and wear down the charger at all times. This is an annoying non-trivial cost cutting measure that saved them under $10 on a $3000 laptop. Aside from that, expect Linux support to be far more difficult than a more traditional laptop… Numpad, Screenpad brightness, touchscreen, sleep, and oled screenburn features will need to be manually hacked in, and ASUS offer absolutely zero support for Linux, which is a shame as SteamOS could be glorious on this.

Great product but gets too hot. If you want to use it on your skirt it is impossible. The battery live is to short.

I purchased 2 units of this laptop. The first has an OLED UHD Touch Display and is excellent with no issues so far. However, the screen of the second one (OLED 4K UHD Touch Display) looks extremely grainy. It is like a mesh of black dots and especially visible when a window with white background is opened. this “black grains” make the screen look like a TV of the 2000 s.I’ll update my review once ASUS provides an answer on this issue.

This computer is a beast. You will get used to the keyboard that everyone likes to complain about. The second monitor is a dream for work and travel, the specs of this computer are top. It is a battery drainer and somewhat heavy, not for light travel work. Great for working professionals that need the extra power. As a data scientist, this computer you need; doesn’t cost the Lambda up pricing.

We loved the laptop, speed and screen quality was great. The second display also very handy. Once the Windows 11 update ran, I suspect a driver for the screen 2 touch functionality was undated rendering it useless, after update touching screen #2 registered as a right most selection on screen 1. Called ASUS support, after some work they recommended we return to them for repair, or return to Amazon. We requested replacement from Amazon which went well. Problem laptop #2 identical issue with Windows 11 update. Spoke with Asus at length, this seems to be a Win11 driver issue vs. hardware. Asus did very little in terms of working with us to resolve, update or even check drivers. They very quickly offered the same options to return to them or return to Amazon. We returned to Amazon and ended up buying a Dell XPS at Best Buy that we are very happy with. We are extremely disappointed and I want to warn potential buyers. If you go with Windows 10 you may have better luck.

My biggest problem was needing multiple screens whilst working, which meant my laptop, connected to a couple external monitors, was effectively a desktop computer. When I had to travel with the laptop, the lack of the additional monitors hampered my productivity. However, the very innovative screenpad works wonderfully. I am thoroughly enjoying this laptop.

I wanted something that was beefy and portable to give me the ability to work (Photo/Video/Web) and play games if I’m not at home if I wanted to.Well this machine does exactly that. The 4k screen, i9 12th Gen processor, 32gb, and the GeForce RTX 3080 makes doing this all a breeze.I cant wait to use the Screenpad + with Photoshop & Premier Pro!!!!Also, they offer a 90day extension on the warranty for this review! This is great!

For those who intend to actually utilize the graphical power of a NVIDIA GTX 3070, understand that this laptop ain’t it. Like many laptop graphics cards, is married to your device. However, Asus decides to really stick it to you by making it so that the thunderbolt ports are wired directly to the integrated intel graphics card, so only the HDMI port is actually wired to expensive dedicated graphics card. As most people know, HDMI is well and good, it’s being phased out as most devices favor displayport, and Asus didn’t care enough to add that.So for an “Advanced” piece of tech that considers itself “minimal” and “cutting edge”, it’s relies on a secondary touch screen as its selling point and completely disregards its severe lack of versatility for the activities that would actually require you to use the dedicated graphics card, oh, and don’t forget the fact that really using said graphics card will make your laptop heat up in ways that the sleek little vents can barely handle. You may also be wondering “why don’t you use a cooling pad?” right, there are no vents below so using it on your actual lap isn’t recommended.

I use this for blender(3d modeling) and video games and its a great machine. Little tip though, when playing video games it needs plugged in. Some reason elden ring was extremely laggy on the lowest settings unplugged but when plugged in it runs the highest settings beautifully. The battery life is about 4 hours for me when using blender. The renders are decently fast, the pen they give with the computer is truly fantastic. The machine gets pretty warm. I bought a device that cools your computer by blowing wind underneath it into the vents for my peace of mind. Idk if it gets too hot for the computer or not just slightly worried. The bag is nice but it’s a backpack and I would have preferred an over the should style carrier but no real issue there.

Laptop is quite good but it has two major issues. One is battery which drains out in an 1 hr if you are working continuously (always connect the charger) and second is the heating issue.Graphics are amazing and screen quality is awesome. I am a designer so fast machine is always a requirement and this machine is super fast.

TLDR – Get this laptop if you are comparing to anything else on the market as of 1/24/2022NOTE – The 3080 laptop graphics card is not ready for 4k gaming yet. The desktop version is, as is the 3090 of course (I have them both). So I purchased the Dell X17 laptop with the 144hz 4k display – 3080 graphics card, 64 GB memory, etc. I put that side by side this zenBook.Remember – 4k gaming is not there yet on laptops. When looking at these laptops side by side the OLED won right off the bat but mostly due to colors / reflections / overall look. Both the dell 144hz and the OLED had some screen tearing going on but that’s just simply because you can’t get 80+ frames at 4k yet with the 3080 laptop. So my tests required me to go down to 2k gaming to really see the difference. Even though this is a 60Hz Screen, the OLED panel had a smoother look than the 144Hz. I just couldn’t even look at the Dell TN panel anymore because the colors / brightness / saturation was just awful in comparison and I truly didn’t see a “smoothness” difference between the refresh rate f the two systems.I will say, if this was a 120hz version like the LG OLED 48″ I have at home it would dominate the market but I get why they don’t do it yet – Even the 3080 can’t pump out enough frames at 4k so what’s the point?OLED IS THE WAY! I have now replaced every monitor and laptop with OLED displays and I’m never going back. It’s like the difference between seeing 144hz for the first time or 1080p -> 2k -> 4k for the first time. Once you see it there’s no going back.I just wish I didn’t have to pay out of my own pocket to do these comparisons first lol

the battery is honestly the only issue it runs super smooth, the second screen is a god send if you set it up right. i use it for the DnD games i play using the upper screen for video chat and the lower screen the take notes, keep track of my hit points, have my character sheet on display. haven’t had a chance to really put this laptop through intensive use but if anything dramatically changes i’ll update the review. one last thing the screen is gorgeous the OLED really makes a difference.

So regardless if my computer can be repaired, I’d like to start with I have never heard or used bitlocker before, so now this 3300 dollar paperweight is locked behind something I never set up or was informed on since I put my information in a computer with as least info as possible, it’s not really leaving my house or getting connected to wifi outside of it so network properties aren’t useful, the tech support you receive as a ex-tech support agent isn’t going to be all that much better save for maybe some code or something, but this is actually gonna make me kinda suicidal cause the price dropped 1000 dollars over new years, I had just gotten broken up with so I wasn’t really doing much other than feeling sad, so I finally get out of that wallowing a couple days ago and want to play a fall out game for what was the first time in years, oh apparently I haven’t installed the driver’s, well… I installed them and now bitlocker has made my computer a paperweight after about 2 hours of someone who “liked” this hobby. Since I know the computer is basically mac level of building I feel, kinda dead inside. On the actual hardware… Two screens isn’t really all that more productive when the graphics card is running miles for a light jog.

Doesn’t lag like my old hp laptop. Can handle more than one program which makes multitasking great. Since I only use it a little at a time, have only just charged it a second time the other day (July 4th) and I first charged it May 6th. I can’t wait to keep using it.

Left speaker sounds like it has “sand” in it. The speaker resonates or vibrated against the chassis and Caps lock key. Sounds absolutely horrible at med to high volume. I had bought the Zenbook Pro Duo first edition back in December 2019, and had to return it for the same reason. Was hoping they would fix the issues with this model. What kind of quality control are they running. After 3 weeks of waiting for delivery to just be disappointed again!

I upgraded from the previous Asus ZenBook Pro Duo which I used for two years. This second updated version is better in every way.The software I use runs fast and smoothly on this kind of power. I use DaVinci Resolve Studio for video processing. I use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. I’m a software developer using Microsoft Visual Studio. The OLED main screen is absolutely stunning and color accurate. It is without question the best screen I’ve ever used. The second screen is incredibly useful with the applications I use. When using DaVinci Resolve Studio I keep my timeline on the second screen. With my other apps I run different app windows on the second screen depending on what I’m doing. I love the versatility and productivity. I could never go back to using a single screen notebook computer.I’m a fast touch typist and I find the keyboard to be excellent. I’ve learned to really like the placement of the touch pad to the right of the keyboard and it’s become intuitive and actually works quite well. However, most of the time I do use a Bluetooth mouse.Because the second screen lifts up, there is 36% better airflow than previously. I’ve not experienced any heat problems.Battery life is much better than the last generation. I’ve had the battery last close to 5 hours. That’s more than sufficient for my needs. My Asus ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED has exceeded my expectations and I would buy it again without hesitation.

Extremely robust hardware. This is the first laptop I’ve owned that can dissipate heat proficiently. I do a lot of video editing and gaming. Running Cyber Punk at 1080 with ultimate settings the 3080 temperature plateaus at 81C. Not bad considering my 2070S in my desktop reaches the same temps. The i9 processor is amazing. It absolutely destroys anything you throw at it. Again the processor temp gets about 89C under extreme stress. Absolutely fenominal for a laptop with these specs to be able to cool itself in a 79F room and not reach throttling. The fans are relatively quiet but then again the fans have only reached max maybe once or twice so they stay relatively quiet. The 4k oled screen is amazing with eye popping color. I recommend this laptop for gamers and creative users alike. Gets 70-90 fps on 1080 ultimate witcher 3. Not bad.

I’ve wanted this computer for a long time. I almost got the previous generation version and decided to wait. But, man, this is a powerful media machine. I edit videos with many layers, intense color grading, etc. It’s a breeze. I just love the second lower screen for the timeline. It really frees up screen real estate. This computer was made for media creators in mind. It also comes with a handy stylus (but I can’t draw). It’s perfect for what I need it for: 5/5

Is it worth the money? For me, absolutely! I’ve been watching this space and saving my pennies, since the ROG Zephyrus Duo came on the scene last year. If you’re just starting your research, there are many many reviews online for the Zenbook Duo, Zenbook Pro Duo and ROG Zephyrus Duo. My review should be looked at as “in addition to”.I’m a programmer and I do a lot of work local on my laptop. Having an extra display is important, because it allows me to monitor several things at once and not clutter up my main screen. The processor (i9), while not the latest, still packs plenty of power. The 32GB of RAM is a blessing. My requirements when making a decision between the three available ASUS Duos included:- Dual screen- 15 inch main screen- 4k screen(s)- 32GB+ RAMThat immediately kicked the Zenbook Duo 2021 (14″) out of the competition. The ROG Zephyrus Duo 2021 got dropped in part because of price, but also form factor. My personal laptops are lap dwellers and not potted plants on a desk. My older Zenbook (Q546) I was able to “hook” on my knees. When I saw I could do the same with the Zenbook Pro Duo 2021, I knew I had found the Duo for me.I’ve had the Zenbook Prod Duo 2021 now for about 2 months and think it was money well spent.Pros for me:* OLED main screen – It’s gorgeous! It’s more than I was expecting to get.* CPU/Memory combination – It chews through all the work I send it. Way too many applications open, several virtual machines, etc.* Trackpad location – I’m right handed, so for me this was a very good thing. And I’ve been dealing with some carpal tunnel, so having it on the right side is awesome. That it can change into a number pad is an extra bonus.* Form factor – Looked at from the side, when the laptop is open the back end is lifted up. This creates a “hook” where I can “hang” the laptop off my knees.Other items I like:* 1 year ASUS Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) – This is available for other ASUS premium laptops. It comes with the laptop and does not cost extra.* Hot keys that allow me to switch windows around between the main screen and screenpad/secondary screen.* Laptop stand (accessory) – This thing rocks! It can help stabilize the laptop, when its on my knees. I can get a better grip on the laptop when I’m carrying it around. It also works great on a desk/table top.Cons for me:* No lock slot – There’s no way to lock it to a desk. I take this laptop everywhere and I have to watch it everywhere. A lock slot would get me off constant high alert for theft.* Case is extremely slick – Getting a grip on this laptop is a bit dicey. I’m looking for grip “stickers”.Be aware of for me:* OLED Burn in – I’m happy to follow the ASUS OLED care suggestions. It will be years before I see anything. The OLED TV experiment I looked at packed 5 years of watching into 9 months.* Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) – This kicks in at 90 nits and below (~25% screen brightness). I am sensitive to it, so I make sure to keep the screen brighter than that.* Keyboard placement – I agree with others that the placement is awkward, but to host a second display where else is it going to go? I’m not a touch typist, so the impact to my typing is not much.No big deal items for me:* Weight – My laptop bag with 2 laptops and other tech gear went from about 20 pounds to about 21 pounds.* Battery – Battery life is not great ~3-4 hours, but I’m always close to an electrical outlet.

Screen was defective out of the box. Certainly can’t be used for any creative work. Wasn’t even suitable for the terminal emulator.Second screen is a practically unusable gimmick. Viewing angle is extremely poor. Almost usable as an extension of the keyboard, but don’t rely on using this as a second screen. In either case, you’ll be leaning over the laptop to see what’s on it.Touch pad is uselessly small and messes up the keyboard layout. Would have preferred no touchpad and a full keyboard.Keyboard keys were nice and clicky though.N-Trig pen was responsive and pressure sensitive, but not super accurate. Good as a mouse, not as a pen. And the two screens having different finishes (smooth vs matte) was off-putting. Would have preferred both be smooth, but even both being matte would have been much better.Opening the laptop is awful. At about 20% open, the back of the lid tries to find purchase on your table, but it just slides around. And you can’t use it on your lap unless you want that lifting edge to dig into your legs. The specs on this laptop were the biggest draw, but I couldn’t properly test them because literally every action was preceded by about a quarter second pause. Rendering, opening programs, typing commands, didn’t matter. No matter how simple or complicated, it did everything extremely quickly, but it seemed like it had to wait before starting to process. Even moving the mouse started with lag, but after it caught up it was smooth. Never got above 70c, so it wasn’t a throttling issue.Overall, not recommended.

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago and its a very pretty and powerful machine, but the screenpad plus and the numerical touch pad stop working soon after setup. I spent hours on the phone with technical support and everything we tried failed to solve the problem. ASUS support was essentially worthless. They aren’t able to remotely diagnose my machine’s problem and they can’t offer me a local shop to take the machine to have it assessed and fixed. They claim to be unaware of the problem, so I ordered a second machine, hoping that the first one was a Lemon. I experienced the same problem with the second machine in the same manner. After about an hour, while updating and setting up the BRAND NEW LAPTOP (this is the second laptop in under two weeks!), the screenpad plus stopped functioning as a touchscreen. It now only functions like a touchpad for the main screen. BOTH SCREENS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TOUCH SCREENS! I can’s afford to buy a $3,200 laptop every week until I get one that works like it’s supposed to!

It will have no problem playing any game that will be released for the next 5 years. I love the 2nd screen and both screens support a stylus and multi touch with gesture. This really is an incredible machine and highly customizable to suit your needs. The fan can be quiet but if it suits your needs it can go full force, which can be loud but its because they’re quality fans working hard and not because they cant keep up. The battery life can be extended but if you’re pushing the laptop you will drain it quickly. It’s something to keep in mind, not a criticism. This is a dream laptop for me.

This laptop would be the best creative laptop available if not for a major oversight. I can’t stress enough how beautifully the laptop is made and how amazing it is to have the second screen. Everything feels top notch and the laptop performs more than adequately. It does get too hot for any thought of using it on your lap and the battery life is subpar at best. It’s also extremely expensive for what you get under the hood. A comparative DELL Alienware gaming laptop with double the memory, a better CPU and GPU and a 17in 4k screen is cheaper. That’s how great this laptop performs when it comes to productivity, it punches way above its cost/value ratio. I’ve spent nearly a month trying to see if I can just live with the flaw. What flaw you ask?The main screen is absolutely beautiful in every way save for a fine grainy moiré that covers the entirety of it. What little information I have gleaned from the research I’ve done all points to Samsung’s touch mesh they used on this oled screen. I would trade the touch aspect of the screen if it meant this wasn’t a factor. Though I noticed it instantly upon turning on the computer, it isn’t quite deal breaking because you can learn to see through it for the most part. It bugs the heck out of me every time I notice it though. I really want to love this computer but I just can’t. It negatively affects my design workflow because the mesh interacts how I see colors in my Adobe programs I use and is really noticeable when surfing the web (white backgrounds). It’s not super noticeable on dark backgrounds or when editing photos but it is just always there.*Update*After a lot more research I have learned the “dots” I’m seeing across the main screen are in fact the touch mesh technology and is present in every 4k OLED screen Samsung supplies to manufacturers. I’m not sure how this fact did not get mentioned in any of the reviews I read online about this specific laptop. It is a major distraction to me. My eyes fatigue much faster than usual due to them focusing on an off the mesh continuously while designing. I can see how someone who edits video or photos wouldn’t be affected as much because it’s much less noticeable in video and images. For 2D design though it’s a problem. It alters how I see flat colors because the mesh presents as a grey texture. I am really disappointed I have to return this computer. I love every other aspect of it. The form factor is perfect for me. If there was a non-touch version, it would quite literally be the perfect design laptop.
